Use your return arrow on your browser to come back to this index if you need to. The up button will bring you back too but to the top of the page and that gets tedious after awhile. I have left off captions and comments on most of the photos for a couple reasons. First there is the usual excuse that I did not want the words to distract the viewer from the photos. (I know you believe that). Reason number two is that there were so many photos and so few that I actually knew what I was photographing that it would look kind of silly to have some labeled and others not, so unless it was absolutely necessary I didn't write anything. Personally I don't think it matters if you know what you are looking at, whether it is a Temple to Apollo or a Stoa to the Naxiotis nor does it matter if you know anything about ancient history or archaeology when you visit Delos. When you see the devastation of what was once a thriving city and sacred island it sets the wheels turning in your head and you can't help but think about what will become of our civilization. Delos can be a religious experience or at least one that provokes thought. |
