Hi Matt, Over 15 years I have been to different places in Greece. Recently
I discovered Kalymnos and I am seriously in love with the island. It is
an original and quiet place, with beautiful nature and very friendly
people. But that you knew already. The information Gill send you is
very complete, but I just wanted to add a few things.
On the road to Vlachidia
there is a little Folk Museum. Entrance is free and you get a personal tour
by a greek lady who speaks very well english. The museum shows you a
traditional historical house at Kalymnos. At Platy Gialos is one of the
most beautiful appartment building Mousselis Apartments. Ocean view, clean
and nice. Mouselis Restaurant is part of the building and Mr. Mouselis and
his four sons cook a perfect dinner for you every evening, real local
traditional food. Before you know it you are a part of the family. 30 22430

In wintertime Kalymnos is one of the best places to go
rockclimbing. In october 2004 there was a big international Climbers
convention and the paths are beautiful.
Taxi drivers take you
everywhere you wanna go. Still there is a big difference between the service
and price. There are 44 taxis on the island. The best one (and the cheapest)
is taxi George Koukoubas. He speaks english, was born and raised on the
island and enjoy´s telling you about the history and culture. Best is to
ask him where you should go, he will be your tourguide. 30

For traveling to Kalymnos the next tip. When you
fly to Kos and arrive there, ask the taxi driver which ferry will bring to
quickly to Kalymnos. The ferry`s from Mastiarchi go 3 or 4 times a day, but
there is also a catamaran going from Kos city. Besides that, if you are
really in a hurry, you can get a personal transfer from a boat from
Mastiarchi for 25 euro on the Marie Antoinette. The Taxi drivers know exactly
which way is the best, because timetables from the ferry change frequently.
I
hope this info is helpfull. I can strongly recommend the island for a great
holiday.
Regards
Joke
