In the Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas in Adamas there are three tombstones. The one on the left is in memory of Lt Alexander H. Hophinson of the US Navy who died on board the US Lexington in 1827. The church was built in 1827 by Louis Brest who was French vice-consul to Milos and instrumental in bringing the Venus di Milo to France. There is another Catholic Church in Plaka, Our Lady of the Rosary, also built by Louis Brest in 1823.
